The cull began at Samhain, and it is inspiring December poetry

Editing notebooks

My scribbled wisdom lives here

Ideas, hope, ink.

……..

New poems, haiku forms, and all sorts of story ideas emerge as I look through my notebooks. Every Samhain I cull them. This year there are almost 40 to examine.

It is a pleasure to shred pages as I go along. Only the best of my writing and ideas will be kept.

This is about one third of my notebooks. The photo also shows some plants.

Since November, turning my attention to these pages has also given me regular breaks from the main work of editing my nonfiction book. An avid researcher, I have taken my time with the book. ‘Research’ does not mean Google searches! I’ve read lots of studies, conducted by other curious minds around the world who devote their working lives to helping people. Finding the best research is satisfying, and I trained for this (I studied sociology at postgraduate level).

At the same time, the nonfiction book would be exhausting to produce without some variety in my day. So hooray for the notebooks. They feel like fun to my brain.
