The past will meet the present at the annual Irish Oral History Network gathering in June, and I am happy that my paper has been selected to be part of it.
My talk relates to 1970s culture, which was a time of great music and flared jeans. Here in Ireland, it was also a traumatic era for people living in the Northern counties, where war raged.

The two-day symposium will take place at the Meadowlands Hotel, Oakpark, Tralee, Co. Kerry.

Photo notes
1. Grafton Street and Duke Street, Dublin, 1978. A yellow bus advertises Silk Cut cigarettes. People walking in the area are wearing flared jeans. Photographer unknown.
2. People dancing in Dublin at a disco in the late 1970s. Photo by Richard Cramer. It was shared in an online post about Dublin’s Zhivago club.
3. Black and white phot by Peter Tursfield. A dog is walking on a street, looking towards a police barricade of RUC men in Armagh, Ireland. 1978. The photo appeared in the Irish Times when the paper reported on the RUC’s presence at a banned Republican march which “passed off peacefully”.
